So, how does Skillhippo.com work?

Skillhippo.com is a simple and easy to use platform. Every Skillhippo.com aficionado can access the website and browse for what’s on offer to learn and explore opportunities to teach. If you wish to enjoy the offerings and be a part of our community, you need to create a profile with us. Creating a profile with us is simple and quick. We appreciate your time and want to get you amidst the action in a jiffy. Once you have created your profile, you will have access to two tabs:

• Learn: You can browse through all the classes on offer and filter them by broad categories, specific categories, location and price. You may review classes and register for an exciting class.
• Teach: You can use this tab to create your class. Please click here for more.

Although, it is neither compulsory for every student to register as a teacher, nor for every teacher to register as a student, we do recommend you to think about it. We strongly believe that all of us have a lot to learn from each other!

I already have an established commercial offering, why should I sign up?

You are an experienced campaigner and we would love to have you on board with us. Learning from you and offering you a chance to learn from other members of our community is an exciting proposition! Things you should consider:

• At Skillhippo, you’re an entrepreneur. You have the freedom to freely market yourself on our portal, decide your own price, set your own rules for conducting your class and contribute to our community’s growth.
• Financial Reward. Potential to surpass and supplement earnings from your commercial offering.
• Interacting with our community will also serve as an additional outlet for your creativity. Not only can you continue to offer the same product as your commercial offering but also try new things.
• The Social Experience. Our community is constituted of like-minded, talented and enthusiastic individuals and you get to meet new, interesting people and exchange ideas.

I’m a semi-pro, and not an established professional teacher. Why would someone pay to learn my skills?

• You possess transferable skills, the ability to teach and a tremendous passion! The combination is ideal.
• You provide greater individual attention, and run it in a participatory fashion.
• You structure an ideal batch size to optimize learning. We recommend having a minimum batch size (if you need to have one) of no more than 3 students.
• You’re value proposition is time and cost-effective compared to professional organizations.

I am a teacher. How much can I charge? Will the prospective student pay the price I demand?

• As a SkillHippo entrepreneur and a master of your skill, our platform provides you with the means to advertise yourself and gauge student interest and participation rates. We recommend you to carefully consider the available information and set a price to attract your target audience.
• SkillHippo will levy a 12.36% service tax charge and a 3% transaction charge on your quoted price to the student. Your service tax liability will be collected by us and transferred to you along with your other dues.

Why should a teacher go through SkillHippo?

• Maximum outreach for your service/ classes.
• Zero-cost marketing in established media.
• Promoting yourself as an individual.
• we help you generate attendance for new classes, and augment attendance for your existing classes.

I wish to teach. I do not possess a venue/ do not wish to invite attendees home. Will you provide me a classroom?

• Organising a venue is the teacher’s prerogative, as we feel that a teacher can find the best environment for scheduling classes.
• Our support: Please contact us if you would like us to provide you with a list of possible venues in various locations. However, please be mindful that the cost for venue rental, if any, will have to be borne by the teacher.

How do I learn more about/ verify the quality of teachers?

• We have profiles of a number of teachers on our website. Information about their experience, work, skill, achievements, etc. of teachers is listed on their individual profiles.
• Every teacher profile and course profiles contains a ‘reviews’ section where students who’ve attended past classes can provide reviews.
• In addition, students can indicate their approval through recommendations. This can be done by clicking the ‘recommend’ button on the course profile page and/or by clicking the ‘endorse’ button on the teacher’s profile.
• The combination of these options will enable prospective students to make informed choices about the class they wish to attend.

Is there any age limit?

No, there is no age limit as such. Anyone of any age can register as a teacher or a student. However, if the class requires an age limit (upper or lower), we highly recommend teachers to include such information in their course description.

How do teachers reschedule a class? What if students cannot attend the rescheduled class?

We value everyone’s time and understand that a student may be free on Sunday 1 but not on Sunday 2. Hence we do not encourage re-scheduling. However, in dire cases, if a teacher decides to reschedule, here are the next steps:

• Teachers can not automatically do this and will need to contact us (hyperlink to contact us) at SkillHippo with their request and reasons
• Teachers will be charged 25% of their due remittance for any change in class posted.
• Student will be provided the option of full refund in case they cannot attend the rescheduled class.
• Repeated re-scheduling may result in the teacher being suspended from the SkillHippo community

Can a teacher cancel a class?

• No, a teacher can only reschedule a class. There will be no option to cancel a class once created, however a no-show from a teacher, shall lead to immediate suspension of the teacher from the SkillHippo community.
• Students get a complete refund just in case their class gets cancelled.

I’m a teacher, and I’ve conducted my class. When will SkillHippo pay me?

We make all our payments to teachers, as per collections on a weekly basis.

How do I offer a multi-session class?

• We understand that students might be busy and unwilling to commit to multiple classes while signing up.
• If teachers have a multi- class proposition, one can break it up into appropriate classes and label them as single classes.
• example: a 40 hour crash course in teaching mandarin can be 10 classes of 4 hours each, labeled as Mandarin 101, Mandarin 102, and so on. These will be registered as single classes

How do I report an error?

You can use the ‘contact us’ tab with a link to the error or use 'report' from the course profile.

How are you different from yellow pages? 

Profiling on SkillHippo as a teacher is an intricate process with continuous reviews of advertised classes and teachers by students. We are focused on providing students and teachers with memorable experiences.
